I grew up amongst the hills of North Wales and lived in Scotland for several years, but have been based mainly in Chamonix for two decades. I have 30 years of mountaineering experience. Highlights include many classic ice and mixed climbs in Scotland with several new routes, many grand courses of the Alps such as the Eiger north face, new routes in Alaska, high altitude experience in the Peruvian Andes and on the summit of Khan Tengri in the Tien Shan Himalaya, Aoraki Mount Cook in New Zealand, classic big wall rock climbs in Yosemite, and several steep ski descents in the Alps.
I am a full member of the British association of Mountain Guides (BMG), which trains and certifies guides to the rigorous standards of the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA, or UIAGM in French). This is the highest level of mountaineering qualification in the world and results in the award of the prestigious Guides Carnet, a legal requirement to work in most of the alpine countries.
